Conan - Red Nails & Queen of the Black Coast Broken Sea Audio and More

Here's a link to a free audio production of Red Nails by Robert E. Howard. Listen to online or download. This is the Broken Sea Audio production, which previously disappeared due to some New Zealand legal complications. I had originally run across a version from Liber Vox and was going to post a link to it, but, oh my god, the guy reading it sounded like a computer and pronounced Stygia with a hard G! I did some more searching and found this version. Much, much better!

If you would prefer to read it yourself and are lacking a copy, here's a direct link to a free PDF download. I'm not sure what edition it's from.

Does anyone know what ever happened to the Red Nails Animated film? It doesn't look like the site has been updated for quite a while. Last I heard, it was in post-production a few years ago and has apparently been shelved.

That sucks!

I've just heard - "The pay was poor and the wine was sour, and I don't like black women. And that's the only kind that came to our camp at Sukhmet—rings in their noses and their teeth filed—bah!"

I think women of African descent are groovy, myself. The teeth file thing would be a turn-off, though.

"Blast your soul, you hussy!" he exclaimed in exasperation. "I'm going to take off your--"
Hussy! Ha!

I'd be hard pressed to name my favorite Conan tale. Rogues in the House, comes to mind. As does Beyond the Black River, Xuthal of the Dusk, Hour of the Dragon and The People of the Black Circle.

Red Nails rocks too

Broken Sea also has an audio of Queen of the Black Coast, here.

And if that wasn't cool enough, check this out!
The folks at Crom!: The Ultimate Conan Fan Blog posted a link to an English Translation of this Graphic Novel, last year.
If you would like to read a prose version of the tale, here's a PDF link. And with that, I'll leave you with another Red Nails pic.

  1. I'd have to agree about "Rogues in the House." It has a great twist, and manages to work in a decent amount of the "humanity descends into barbarism and rises up more than once" reflected in the physical aspects of Thokk the ape.

  2. Howdy Joseph - Yes. I started reading my Dark Horse Conan Graphic Novel Compilation #5, the other day. It features Rogues as part of the story arc. Looking forward to finishing it. :)

  4. Hello James,
Thanks for the mention! I'm hopeful for the Red Nails film, but the producers have been pretty tight lipped over the last few years. I see that the director (Vic Dal Chele) still has it listed on is resume when he updated it about four months ago (http://vicdalchele.blogspot.com/), so I remain optimistic.
