Hot Elf Chick! Testing Some New Posting Software.
2,684 page views. It was actually posted almost a year ago and some time before blogger started keeping up with my stats. I was merely testing some new posting software and wanted to throw a pic or something up. I chose a Hot Elf Chick, just to amuse myself. It didn't occur to me at the time, how many hits I would get from Google searchers, who had never even heard of the OSR.
So, this is what we do - Everyone puts up a pic of a Hot Elf Chick, with a post title like "Hot Elf Chick welcomes you to the OSR!" We should probably do several variations of the title! Out of the thousands and thousands of hits we'll collectively receive, some of those are bound to me former TSR era gamers, who aren't aware of what's going on currently in the Old School gaming scene. We post a pic like the one above, followed by something like this:
Welcome to the OSR!
Then maybe some appropriate links, an introductory message, etc.!
And, so as not to be a total tease:
Let's see how many hits this post title gets!
I also recommend working in "NSFW" (even "Slightly NSFW") and "motivational" in there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Blogger Stats, I'm currently at 2,387 pageviews for this lazy ass post:

I do have a couple of NSFW Elf Chick pics. Only a couple, though. Honestly!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an excellent plan. Now I just need to find the right picture....
ReplyDeleteI think you're onto something here, James.
ReplyDeleteMy all time most-viewed post is Dungeons and Slavegirls at 3,849, though I'm betting most of those are from the BDSM community...
Great jumping Gygax on a pogo stick, that's brilliant! I'm off to the hard drive to retrieve suitable images.
ReplyDeleteHeh! I remember that post, Sean!
ReplyDeleteand where should these images direct you to?
ReplyDeleteNowhere. Any links would follow the picture.
ReplyDeleteHa, awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteI still get a incredible lot of hits on my Elise Gygax post, now that you mention it.
This is. . . not a terribly bad way to accomplish your objective.
ReplyDeleteThere are gender issues at work here, however. Zack and Greg seem to have covered them quite in depth. Where to draw the line? At this? At the evil DM? Who can say?
Not I.
Hahaha, that is a fun idea! Good one James, let me think on how best to implement and I'm in.
ReplyDeleteGamers make the best bloggers. You guys crack me up.
ReplyDeleteCount me in! -> HOT ELF CHICKS COMMAND YOU TO JOIN THE OLD SCHOOL REVOLUTION
ReplyDeleteSo, I get to thinking I've done some non-euclidean stuff, and I can visualize 5-dimensional structures easy enough. And then Mr. Smith casually rips open the tenderest fabrics of my reality! Screaming unheard colours! Intangible unseen shapes!
ReplyDeleteEgads!
So it was said, so it was done ;).
ReplyDeleteYou've created a monster! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think the women in my group would care about the hot elf chick. But post both the hot elf chick and the guy who played Legolas and you'll get both genders showing up.
ReplyDeleteThe women in my group like their cheesecake too :)
Pure friggin' genius.
ReplyDeleteEr... I think that might be a dodgy photoshop job of a friend of mine.
ReplyDeleteWINNING! (I'd advise against Googling the phrase "hot elf chick" yourself though if you have SafeSearch disabled and children or co-workers around!!!)
ReplyDeleteHey it works! When I googled "Hot Elf Chick" this morning I got a bunch of middle age men playing dungeons and drgaons! Exactly what I wanted!
ReplyDeleteCould we maybe use a method of promotion that doesn't exploit women?
ReplyDelete@cyclopeatron - OK, that really had me laughing for a bit. Even all the moreso because it is actually working.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking you up on your idea! I'm also linking my most recent post to you: http://digitalorc.blogspot.com/2011/03/why-i-blog-or-hot-naked-elf-chicks-in.html
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Why don't we post pictures of MILFS

Its fun!

The "hot elf chicks" idea is cool, any blog with enough humor to post something like that is one I want to check out :) I see it expanding my OSR blog list :)
ReplyDeleteR: It doesn't actually exploit women. It exploits pictures of women. I know how easy it is to make that mistake, since pictures these days are so realistic, but turn your head a little to the side and I'm sure you'll see that what is on your screen is just a picture and not, in fact, an actual living hot elf chick.
ReplyDeleteNow what is truly unconscionable here is that the person who altered that image used Photoshop or some other photo-editing software, and did not get the permission of THAT PROGRAM to be used! Every time you run Firefox it's like you're raping it.
1d30: Thanks for the clarification, I'm sure the fact that these are 2 dimensional images and not actual 3 dimensional women makes the female gender feel that much more welcome in a hobby full of guys who can't wait to ogle them.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness R, do you feel oppressed by the picture above and if so, why?
ReplyDeleteNo elves in my contribution, but hopefully a chuckle or two... http://servitorludi.blogspot.com/2011/03/hot-elf-chicks.html
ReplyDeleteIf it helps, the woman in this picture used to date my Call of Cthulhu GM.
ReplyDeleteJohn Adams said... "Who doesn't like hot elf chicks?"
ReplyDeleteBearded Dwarven Chicks.
Hm - I'm a little late to the party, but I forgot to mention that I posted my contribution as well.
