I'm tentatively scheduling my home campaign to begin in late March. My father should be finished with his chemo/radiation treatments by then, so hopefully no other major issues will crop up and knock my plans awry. I ended up morphing my retro-golem into a heavily house-ruled LL/AEC and I pretty much have it hammered out the way I want. I changed my mind about a couple of things after printing the doc out, so I've already house-ruled my Houserule Edition.:) I'll see if I can talk my wife, or my friend Darren into doing a little art for it and throw it up on the blog so you guys can download it, if you'd like.
I've also met up with a group of gamers, who are playing Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying. We're going to do a rotating GM thing and are planning on some Modern Horror, Weird West, Star Wars and Fantasy. Last night we rolled up some characters for the Modern Horror campaign and got to play a little. The characters are all high-school students, who were imbued with some supernatural abilities by their Evil Cultist parents, seeking to use the kids for their own evil schemes.
My character is Jean Lafitte, a 16 year old African-American wannabe Cult Leader, who dresses like Papa Legba and can summon fire elementals. It was fun and quite nice to actually get to do some gaming. While TSR era D&D is far and away my favorite game, I like Chaosium's system so I'm looking forward to rockin' the d100.
I'm going to be running the Fantasy campaign for the group and I'm thinking of doing a Hyborian Age game. The guys seem to like that idea and I'm wondering how well Chaosium's system would work for Conan's World. Other than last night, my only other experience with the system was playing some Call of Cthulhu, over twenty years ago.
The group is meeting every other week, so between the easy schedule and light GMing duties, I'll still have plenty of time to work on and run my D&D game. Cool!
If you want BRP character to be badasses at the start I'd recommend letting PCs (and some special NPCs) have HP= CON + SIZ. Otherwise one lucky blow ends the fight for a PC pretty quickly in BRP. Otherwise BRP does sword and stealth just fine and dandy.

I love BRP! It doesn't build a sense of nostalgia in me like D&D of old, but it is a very cool game. One that I feel simulates sword & sorcery very well. In case you haven't seen it yet, check this out:

Jason Durall's (the guy who wrote the new BRP book) rules for character creation in the Hyborian Age. Written for Elric!, but highly compatible with BRP.

I've had fun running several BRP 1-shots at conventions. I like that it is just stats and skills pretty much at its core, and you can add on as many bells and whistles as you can come up with on your own, or with the optional rules in the Big Golden Book. :)
